TV3 Marathon funds two research projects on transplants at the University Hospital of Bellvitge

Four projects of IDIBELL on regeneration and transplantation of organs and tissues, two of which are from Bellvitge University Hospital, have been funded by the TV3 Marathon.

Dr. Joseph M. Grinyó, Head of Nephrology of the HUB, leads the project Silencing of immune costimulatory in kidney transplantation which has been funded with 200,000€. The project will study mechanisms for the prevention of ischemic and allogeneic injury in renal transplantation.

On the other hand, Dr. Eduard Montanya, head of section of the Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the HUB, leads, together with Dr. Carlos Eduardo Semino Margrett from the Institut Químic de Sarrià, the project expansion and re-differentiation of pancreatic beta cells cultured on self assemblable peptide nanofiber for the transplantation of insulin-producing cells in diabetes that has been funded with 299,221€. The overall objective of the project is to generate an abundant source of insulin-producing cells that could be transplanted to treat diabetes.
