The jury decided unanimously to grant the award to Joan Gil for his research in new treatments for leukemia and B cell lymphoma. The experimental work carried out by the group led by Joan Gil, in collaboration with the company Advancell, has led to a patent of the use of acadesine molecule. lymphocytic leukemia. This is the first test done for the treatment of cancer, based on a patent created by a group of the Spanish public research system.
The jury highlighted the work of Gil as an example of how basic quality research, proven and published in prestigious journals, can lead to important practical applications in the field of medicine.
