The President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, José Montilla, visited on Friday September 17th the works at  Bellvitge University Hospital and  opened the renewed Laundry .

He was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Marina Geli, the Mayor of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Nuria Marín, the regional delegate of the Government, Carmen San Miguel, the director of the Catalan Health Service, Joseph M. Sabaté, and the director of the Catalan Institute of Health, Enric Argelagués, amongst other officials. Also attended  top representatives of our Hospital and other institutions of the Bellvitge Campus and the Southern Metropolitan Area (Primary Care Direction of Costa de Ponent and the Viladecans hospital).

The president began his tour in the reception area of the Laundry Room, where he met hospital  representatives that informed him about  the strategic plan for territorial development of this facility .  Then he moved to the third floor of the new techno-surgical building, where he visited the future operating rooms.

Then on the second floor he visited the area of intensive care and the bridge joining the Outpatients clinic and the hospital building.

The visit ended with speeches from the Minister of Health, the Mayor of L’Hospitalet, and the President of the Generalitat. Marina Geli reaffirmed her “commitment to the 4200 workers in this hospital” to “continue until the end  the New Bellvitge”. She highlighted the significant increase in our budget and in our activity since 2003 and concluded that “this is one of the hospitals with more present and future.”

The mayor Nuria Marín emphasized the role of the new laundry offering employment to many workers. She also said that the HUB is a  “pioneer center and one of the hardest working  in the country, always searching for excellence and quality.”

The president highlighted  the importance of the investments in healthcare facilities in the recent years, making Baix Llobregat area a self-sufficient healthcare area and is becoming a magnet for top-level research. However, he concluded, ultimately “are professionals, with their knowledge and their human qualities that should be the protagonists of the healthcare system.”
