Neuroscience is one of the strongest area of research of the IDIBELL and the one experiencing the fastest growth. To share the activities carried out by the different research groups in this area, on October 6th at the auditorium of Bellvitge University Hospital was held the first Day of Neuroscience IDIBELL.

The Hub hosted the first IDIBELL Neuroscience Day

The conference was opened by the Director of Bellvitge University Hospital and Chairman of the Board of Governors of IDIBELL Dr. Xavier Corbella, and the CEO of IDIBELL Mr. Emiliá Pola. Following the opening the new group of neurological disorders and neurogenetic, led by Dr. Francisco Rubio, and the new group of psychiatrists and mental health, led by Dr. Jose Manuel Menchón, were presented.

Four discussion panels addressed various aspects of research in neuroscience. The first panel dealt with myelinopathy. The chair was Dr. Joan Blasi, and the speakers were, Dr. Txomin Arbizu, Dr. Aurora Pujol and Dr. Raul Estevez. The second roundtable on neuro-oncology was chaired by Dr. Juan Jose Acebes, and was attended by Dr.Gerard Plans, Dr. Jordi Bruna and Dr. Antoni Rodriguez-Fornells.

The third roundtable, entitled pathology related to the basal ganglia, was attended by Dr. Sergi Jaumà, Dr. Francisco Ciruela, Dr. And Dr. Marta Barrachina and Dr. Pino Alonso. The chair was Dr.. Jose Manuel Crespo. The last round table on translational research and neurodegenerative disorders, was chaired by Dr. Santiago Ambrosio, and was attended by Dr. Ruth de Diego, Dr..Artur Llobet, Dr. Mikel Urretavizcaya and Dr. Jordi Gascón-Bayarri.

The highlight of the day was a lecture by the Professor of Clinical Neuroscience at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Dr. Agneta Nordberg, entitled Molecular Imaging in Alzheimer’s disease.
