The HUB has built a sophisticated system that increases the quality and speed of the Clinical Laboratory measurements

In a continuous process of renewal, modernization and quality improvement, the Clinical Laboratory of the University Hospital of Bellvitge has introduced a new measurement system based on liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) that, for many magnitudes, serves as a reference method. The project was completed with a high and rapid  liquid chromatography with various detection systems.
The use of this technology provides an improvement in the quality of the measurement of certain biological properties, the possibility of reducing the current costs and expand the future possibilities .
It is the first time in Catalonia, that a team of this kind applied to measure the concentration of immunosuppressive routine is set in place.
In May 2011, it started the use of the LC-MS / MS technology  to measure, simultaneously, the plasma concentrations of four immunosuppressants (cyclosporine, tacrolimus, sirolimus and everolimus), which has also provided more speed .
Applied monitoring of immunosuppression, LC-MS/MS technology has as main advantages, high sensitivity, the absence of cross-reactions with the metabolites of the drug, a smaller sample volume and shorter sample preparation process. These features help to improve the efficacy and safety of the immunosuppressive treatment after transplantation.
During 2012,it will be  incorporated the measurement of concentrations of mycophenolate, catecholamines, metanefrines, vanilmandelat and 6- hidroxiindolacetat.
The incorporation of this technology will expand the catalog of services of the Clinical Laboratory with the measurement of magnitudes, that now,  are outsourced to other centers, and also  encourage the participation of the Clinical Laboratory in the development of research projects where this technology can provide innovation  and reliability.
