The Garraf Healthcare Consortium, the HUB and the ICO signed two agreements to coordinate highly specialized medical and surgical services

The Health Consortium of Garraf (CSG), the University Hospital of Bellvitge (HUB) and the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) signed two agreements to coordinate the flow of urgent and non urgent medical and surgical patients requiring highly specialized care.

The signing took place on February 20th at the Hospital-Residence Sant Camil of Sant Pere de Ribes. Representing te HUB was Dr. Xavier Corbella, regional manager of the South Metropolitan Area, accompanied by Dr. Sebastiano Biondo, head of General and Digestive Surgery, Dr. Albert Salazar medical director of the HUB. Dr. Biondo coordinated with CSG the portfolio of services offered at each center regarding general surgery and more especially the diagnosis and treatment of rectal cancer.

The agreement means that CSG will assume all medical and surgical procedures that can be solved in a referral hospital and the HUB and ICO will attend all higher complexity cases.

In the new Health Plan for Catalonia (2011-2015), one of the strategies is the organization of tertiary care centers defining the center that will attend high complexity cases. With these agreements there is a commitment that all tertiary services conducted in the University Hospital of Bellvitge will be made available to the centers of the Health Consortium of Garraf, avoiding the trip of patients to other centers such as Hospital de Sant Pau and the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona.

The agreements ensure that patients transferred from Garraf will be attended at the HUB and the ICO. This will ensure a faster test program, strengthening the continuity of care before and after the test or treatment, and prevents patients from having to travel to perform administrative tasks.

This agreement generates a more fluid relationship between the professionals of both institutions.
