On March 22, was held at the UB the 3rd Plenary Assembly of the HUBc, the campus of international excellence in health of the University of Barcelona. During the session, was presented the status of the 23 projects currently being developed by the HUBc , with a funding of about 15 million.
It was also approved a document to prepare a bid for the development of a community of knowledge and innovation (KIC), focusing on the health sector within the framework of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT ), and were also presented the 2008-2010 indicators for all the 26 institutions that are part of this group.
The event chaired by the Rector of the UB, Dr. Didac Ramirez, was attended by the HUBc rector’s delegate, Dr.Josep Samitier, the Vice President of Research, Dr. Jordi Alberch, and the technical director of the campus of excellence, Ernest Trias and by the different entities that are part of the HUBc.
Currently, the HUBc has funded 23 projects, worth € 14,860,842 through grants and loans programs from the Campus of International Excellence (CEI) 2010, INNOCAMPUS 2010 and Enfortiment 2011, granted by Ministries of Education, Culture and Sport, and Economy and Competitiveness.
UB manages just over 50% of the budget of subsidized projects. The rest is managed by HUBc entities such as the campus Food Torribera, the Consortium Biopol L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Biopol’H), the Bioregion of Catalonia ( Biocat), the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), the Bellvitge Institute for Biomedical Research (IDIBELL), the Hospital Clínic de Barcelona and the University Hospital of Bellvitge.
Among the projects being carried out, must be highlighted the construction of the classrooms of the Bellvitge Campus, a five-story building designed to accommodate classrooms, laboratories and other teaching spaces and services that are expected to be completed by January 2013 . It was also approved the organization of an international conference on public health and healthy aging, coordinated by Alfonso Lopez Soto, Professor of the Department of Medicine, and it will be held in Barcelona in late 2013. It was also initiated a project to develop a vocational training center, an initiative that responds to the ministerial policy to create integrated training environments in the CEI with the participation of the City Council and Biopol’H L’Hospitalet.
In this first year and a half, the HUBc has shaped the core of the campus and has defined the operational and governance model. The attention given to communication has resulted in the launch of a new website and created a profile on Twitter and Facebook.
