Bellvitge University Hospital has managed to increase the survival rate of patients who underwent surgery for rupture of an aneurysm by 20%. Six out of ten patients with ruptured aortic aneurysm do recover after the treatment. The previous recovery rate used to be four out of ten. This improvement has been made possible thanks to the set up of the “aortic emergency treatment programme”, which is based on the practice of minimally invasive endovascular treatment on all those patients who are candidates.
