It is set up the unit for early detection of anal cancer

The HIV Unit of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital of Bellvitge has launched a unit for early detection of anal cancer in men, in order to optimize the detection and early treatment of this disease, often associated with immunosuppression caused by HIV infection.

The purpose of this new unit is to detect cancer precursor lesions such as anal intraepithelial neoplasiales (Aini, Aini and AINIII). In its current initial phase, the program´s target population is the entire population of gay men in the HIV unit of our center.

This initiative aims to make a major step forward in the prevention of anal cancer, a disease that, when seen in advanced stage, requires mutilating surgery and has a very high mortality rate.
