Currently, 2 to 5% of general population suffer from this disorder, which affects males and females equally. Patients with binge-eating disorder show in general more difficulty in stress management, are more impulsive and appear to have less self-esteem than patients with other eating disorders. They show depression symptoms and are worried about their physical appearance.  People with binge-eating disorder also show high obesity rates and their average age is between 25 and 40. These patients develop the disorder at a later age and it takes them longer to see the doctor. Besides, many of these patients make a consultation when they want to lose weight, not because of the disorder itself. The fact that they don’t see this disorder as a problem that needs treatment makes the diagnosis more difficult. Recent studies have made it possible for this disease to be better known, and physicians and endocrinologists have a key role in early detection of affected patients.
