Dr. Fernandez-Conejero presided over the Third World Congress of intraoperative neurophysiology

It has been the most successful Congress in the history of the International Society of Intraoperative neurophysiology (ISIN) because of the number of participants, the highest so far and because of the speakers, the world´s  leading  experts in each subject.

From the scientific and social point of view, the event has been a key to the growth of the ISIN. It should be noted the quality of the participants of the Bellvitge University Hospital, who presented oral communications that have been evaluated as the best of the meeting.

Among the participants there were neurosurgeons, neurophysiologists, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, neuroradiologists, anesthesiologists, technicians and neuroscientists from around the world. Also, for the first time has included the organization of educational courses.

The intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring, in which our hospital is a pioneering center and a reference in Spain, examines the operation of different brain and spinal cord functions during the high risk surgery from very sophisticated techniques that use instruments of various kinds of stimulation and the detection of the evoked potentials. This way it is possible to prevent irreversible damage of the nervous system and the continuing after effects.
