Dr. Carmen Peña leads a research project on bacterial pathogenicity in relation to resistance

Dr. Carmen Peña, of the Infectious Diseases Department of the University, Hospital Bellvitge is the main researcher of the research project Pathogenicity of P.aeruginosa: an evaluation of the in vitro and experimental clinical invasive capacity regarding bacterial resistance , which has been funded by the Health Research Fund (FIS).

Infectious agents are becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotic treatment. According to a hypothesis, germs sensitive to all antibiotics would be more virulent than those who have not developed resistance, as the latter may have lost invasive capacity in the metabolic process of adaptation. However, this hypothesis has so far been difficult to prove with clinical studies.
